VIRGINIE BOCAERT-
ARTISTIC INITIATIVE
Towards reconstruction
To observe
the paintings of Virginia Bocaert, is to dive in apnea in the heart of
characters who emanate forms that are constructed, destroyed and
reconstructed atmospheres. At the end of the road, the emotion.
35
years old, the painter was born in France and works in Montreal since
2002. "I began to get interested in oilpaint at the age of 10 and as my
parent were big enthusiasts of painting, they took me to visit artists'
studios. Afterwards, my culture enrichment continued with visits to
museums and art galleries."
In 1997, as a young lady, she
graduated from the college of high fashion in Paris, with mention, she
clarifies, and began her designer's career. After some time, she turned
once again to full-time painting. "Following several workshops with
artists like Anne Van Mierlo, Jennifer Hornyak and Marilyn Rubenstein, I
decided to get my own studio and to work on my style."
"Today,
I've evolved towards more serene horizons, but I continue to live
together with these characters which I built. They are like friends to
me and accompany me. They are silent and don't judge me. All in all, the
human being is a very strong subject and is very present in my work.
Indeed, due to his complexity and his variety, the man puts us in
situations or states which can be constructive or destructive. As
Jean-Paul Sartre said; "the hell, it is the others" and Thomas
Hobbes;"the man is a wolf for the man", it is necessary to live and to
fight with and against certain states that others impose on us. The
influences, prejudices, other people's opinions were a long battle to
build me, learning to know me and to acquire some trust in me",
concludes Virginia Bocaert.
