As a native of Canadal, Monique Laxer studied classical homeopathy, psychic energy medicine and art. She studied at the Saïdye Bronfman Center taking classes in drawing, watercolor, painting and photography, from 1986 to 1989, then went on to participate in painting workshops with Montreal artist Charlotte Rothenberg,
Laxer is very much interested in texture, and is constantly working with mixed medium using paper on canvas mixing oil, pastel, ink, collage, gold leaf, etc. She discovered Japanese paper and handmade papers. The effects of these various media on the paper continue to fascinate her as an artist. She focuses on human expression and has a love of figurative work and bright colors. Painting occupies an important place in her life. It allows her to get in touch with her spiritual self, using her inner guidance, trusting in the ever-changing creative process of life.
