Mitchell Kotansky (*1962 Montreal) is a sculptor living and working in
Montreal. Working predominantly in bronze, Kotansky has learned the
technical process of lost wax bronze casting and with this experience
has been able to develop a unique style of expressive sculpture. The
subject of his work is the human condition. His sculptures and drawings
deal with relationships between individuals. The strong textural style
in his technique has enabled his work to express an emotional content
unachievable through traditional methods. Humanity often places itself
apart in isolation from the rest of the natural world. To emphasize
this, Kotansky has positioned his works on tall thin steel rods. Steel, a
strong noble material has become delicate in its utilization. The
interplay between the traditional materials and the emotional content
create a visual tension that is evident in the works. His studio, The
Sculpture Studio, is a creative space, and has been in existence since
1992.
